(PhatzRadio / USA Today) — The Chicago Cubs have asked for permission from the Boston Red Sox to speak with Theo Epstein about their vacant general manager’s position, The Boston Globe reported.
The Red Sox have already lost manager Terry Francona, who had a mutual parting with the club following their September collapse. Epstein, the Red Sox’s general manager since the 2003 season, has one year remaining on his Boston contract. It would stand to reason the Red Sox would not hire a manager until the general manager position is settled.
The Cubs are seeking a general manager to replace Jim Hendry, whose firing was announced in August.
