(PhatzRadio/ FoxSports) – Myra Hiatt Kraft, the wife of New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft, died of cancer Wednesday morning.
“Words cannot express the deep sorrow that we feel in learning of the passing of Myra Hiatt Kraft. Myra passed away early this morning after a courageous battle with cancer. We are all heartbroken. The global philanthropic community and the New England Patriots family have suffered a great loss,” the Patriots said in a statement.
Bob Kraft has been heavily involved in the NFL labor negotiations, and had been shuttling between the talks and his wife’s bedside in recent months, according to the Boston Globe.
Myra Kraft was a prominent philanthropist in the Boston area who headed the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation and the Robert K. and Myra H. Kraft Foundation. All in all, she directed more than $100 million into dozens of charitable causes, according to a profile this year by Boston magazine of the city’s 50 most powerful women.
Among the many recipients of the Krafts’ giving have been universities, including Columbia, Harvard, Brandeis and Boston College, the Boys & Girls Club of Boston and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The couple has also donated millions to support the growth of football in Israel.
