(PhatzRadio) — There has been so much written about this. There’s been incredible historical steps taken to punish people, management, and Penn State University for the despicable actions of ex-coach Jerry Sandusky.
But at the end of the day, the person who should have resolved this criminal activity….didn’t.
Franco Harris and other alumni have criticized the Freeh report as “is highly flawed, and factually insufficient.”
Mr. Harris is a Hall of Fame running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Alumni. I think Mr. Harris has really lost the real point of the issue.
It’s not that Coach Paterno wasn’t the person who did the actions, it wasn’t that Coach did report these horrific actions to the AD and President of Penn State, it wasn’t that coach didn’t want Penn State reputation to be harmed, the problem here is that Coach Paterno failed to lead men in the proper manner and failed to create a safe environment for kids. When he was hired at Penn State, he took a “moral oath/charge” to teach and protect kids. Not only that, he is supposed to be the “safety net”. That why Mike McQueary went to coach when he saw the kid in the shower. He thought Paterno would call the right people to resolve the issue. Instead, Coach Paterno wanted to cover up the actions and followed up on those discussions to make sure that this was done. While mildly admonishing Jerry Sandusky.
The objective should have been the kids. That was his moral duty. That was failure number one. But the other failure was that the people around him expect coach to lead them to the right answer. He didn’t. That’s the problem here Mr. Harris. The emails tell the story of a coach that didn’t want to deal with Sandusky. This problem needed to be addressed “head on” with Coach Paterno in the lead.
Mr. Harris stated in his comments that “due process” wasn’t used and a “rush to judgement” occurred without gaining all the facts.
I will pose this question to you – what would Hall of Fame Coach Chuck Noll do???
I think you know the answer to this. That’s why it’s Coach Paterno fault. You have the right to your opinion but try telling that to those kids that got molested and needed someone to speak for them.
A Failure to lead…………….
