Friday’s marquee matchup involved two of the eight teams to clinch playoff berths as Ann Wauters (14 points, 13 rebounds) and the Storm took down the Silver Stars 84-75 at home Friday night.
SEATTLE (AP) — Katie Smith scored 16 points, Lauren Jackson became the fourth WNBA player to reach 6,000 career points, and the Seattle Storm beat the San Antonio Silver Stars 84-75 on Friday night.
Ann Wauters added 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Camille Little and Sue Bird each had 12 for the Storm (15-18). Jackson finished with 11 points and now has 6,003.
Danielle Adams had 16 points and 10 rebounds for San Antonio (20-13), and Sophia Young added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Storm scored the first four points of the game and led all the way, increasing the advantage to 21 in the second quarter. The Silver Stars pulled to 79-75 on a 3-pointer by Shemeka Christon with 39 seconds left in the game. However, they didn’t score again and Seattle hit five free throws to seal the win.
LYNX 89, MERCURY 66
PHOENIX (AP) — Maya Moore scored 13 of her 21 points in the first half as Minnesota cruised past Phoenix.
Seimone Augustus added 16 points and four assists for defending champion Minnesota (27-6). The Lynx, who have clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, open the playoffs at home against Seattle next Friday.
DeWanna Bonner scored 17 points for Phoenix (7-26), which matched the franchise record for losses in a season, set in 2003. The Mercury finish the season Sunday against the Storm.
The Lynx played their starters into the third quarter, extending their lead to 33 after leading 51-34 at the break.
FEVER 66, MYSTICS 53
WASHINGTON (AP) — Erin Phillips scored a season-high 19 points as Indiana pulled away in the second half.
Jessica Davenport added 14 to help the Fever (21-12) snap a three-game losing streak. Indiana also reached 21 wins for the seventh time in the last eight years.
Monique Currie scored 16 points to lead last-place Washington (5-28).
Phillips, starting in place of the injured Briann January, scored 11 of her points in the third quarter as Indiana extended a two-point halftime lead to 12 points heading to the fourth.
The Mystics pulled to 54-47 on a 3-pointer by Jasmine Thomas early in the last quarter, but Indiana soon went on a 6-0 run and Washington got no closer than within 11 the rest of the way.
